Cloud Architect Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

Cloud Strategy and Architecture:

Develop and implement a comprehensive cloud strategy that aligns with business objectives.

Design and build scalable, secure cloud architecture using cloud providers like AWS, Google Cloud, or Microsoft Azure.

Ensure cloud architecture meets the needs of the business in terms of security, scalability, and cost-efficiency.

Cloud Solutions Design:

Design cloud-based applications and infrastructure, ensuring integration with existing systems.

Evaluate and select appropriate cloud services (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS) for specific business needs.

Implement best practices for cloud computing, including governance, automation, and performance optimization.

Migration and Deployment:

Plan and execute the migration of on-premises applications to cloud infrastructure.

Ensure successful deployment and management of cloud services, including backup and disaster recovery.

Work with DevOps teams to implement continuous integration and deployment pipelines (CI/CD) on cloud platforms.

Security and Compliance:

Ensure cloud infrastructure complies with industry standards and regulations, such as GDPR or HIPAA.

Implement security policies, identity, and access management (IAM), firewalls, and encryption to protect cloud data.

Perform vulnerability assessments and maintain a secure cloud environment.

Monitoring and Optimization:

Set up monitoring tools to track cloud system performance and ensure optimal functioning.

Optimize cloud infrastructure for cost efficiency, reliability, and performance.

Troubleshoot cloud infrastructure issues and improve cloud resource utilization.

Collaboration and Leadership:

Collaborate with stakeholders, including software developers, IT operations, and executive management.

Provide technical leadership, coaching, and mentoring to other members of the IT team.

Stay updated with the latest cloud technologies and recommend changes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

Technical Skills:

Strong knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Google Cloud, Azure).

Experience with cloud migration, deployment, and infrastructure management.

Understanding of networking, virtualization, and storage systems.

Familiarity with containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.

Proficient in scripting and automation (Python, Bash, Terraform, etc.).

Strong security skills (encryption, IAM, firewall, vulnerability assessment).

Soft Skills:

Problem-solving and critical thinking.

Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Leadership and team management.

Ability to handle high-pressure situations and prioritize tasks effectively.

Preferred Experience:

5+ years in IT infrastructure or cloud architecture roles.

Experience in managing cloud-native architectures and microservices.

Certifications in relevant cloud platforms (AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Google Professional Cloud Architect, etc.).

Educational Background:

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or related field.

Advanced degree or certifications in cloud-related technologies are a plus.
